Configurable Session Timeout

Overview

BART now supports a configurable idle session timeout, which automatically logs users out after a set period of inactivity. This helps improve account security by ensuring unattended sessions don't stay open indefinitely.

Example: If the timeout is set to 30 minutes, a user who has had no activity (clicks, saves, etc.) for 30 minutes will be automatically logged out.

The timeout can be configured at two levels:

1. Company-wide setting — applies to all users by default
2. User-specific override — applies to individual users, and takes precedence over the company-wide setting

Company-Wide Setting

The company-wide timeout determines the default idle timeout applied to all users in your organization.

To configure:

1. Navigate to Gear → All Settings → Company Settings → Other → Session.
2. Enter the timeout period, in minutes.
3. Save your changes.
   

Notes:

• Setting the value to 0 disables the timeout company-wide (users will not be automatically logged out due to inactivity).
• This setting applies to all users unless a user-specific override is configured (see below).

User-Specific Override

Individual users can have their own timeout setting that overrides the company-wide default. This is useful for accounts such as those used for calendar projections, or for power users who need a different timeout behavior than the rest of the company.

Note: Only BART administrators have access to the User page where this override is configured.

To configure:

1. Navigate to the individual user's User page.
2. Locate the Session Timeout field.
