Fltplan

Overview

FltPlan is the largest flight planning company in North America offering free, web-based flight planning and filing, plus a full range of premium services. BART's integration with FltPlan enables you to:
  1. seamlessly feed your scheduled flight data from BART into FltPlan.
  2. easily file your flight plans from FltPlan with a free web-based flight planning and filing solution.
  3. obtain accurate flight time estimates from FltPlan in BART.

Setup

  1. Generate an API Key on FltPlan:
    1. In FltPlan, navigate to Settings > Default User Settings and scroll down to Third Party Integrations.
    2. Enable BART. Once enabled, you should see an API Key to the right of the Enable/Disable button. Click on the copy icon to the right to copy the API Key.

  2. Enter API Key in BART:
    1. Navigate to Gear Icon > All Settings > Integrations > International & Planning > FltPlan.
    2. Paste the API Key from step 1 and click on Save.

  3. Setup pilots in FltPlan:
    1. In FltPlan, navigate to Settings > User/Pilot Info.
    2. Please ensure that "Pilot Name" in FltPlan matches "First Name" + "Middle Name" + "Last Name" in BART for the respective pilot. First, Middle and Last Names can be found under Schedules/Flight Logs > Crew > All Crew > (Find each Crew member you want to send data to FltPlan for) > Edit > Personal in BART.

  4. Setup aircraft in FltPlan:
    1. In FltPlan, navigate to Settings > Edit Aircraft List.
    2. Please ensure that the "A/C Reg #" in FltPlan matches the "Registration" field in BART for the respective aircraft. Registration can be found under Schedules/Flight Logs > Aircraft > All Aircraft > (Find each Aircraft you want to send data to FltPlan for) > Edit in BART.

    3. Still in FltPlan, navigate to Settings > A/C ICAO Data.
    4. Select the respective aircraft and enter ICAO and aircraft data. Please note that the integration will fail if ICAO data is not configured on FltPlan for the respective aircraft.

Posting Scheduled Flights to FltPlan

  1. Legs scheduled in BART are automatically imported to your FltPlan account every 10 minutes. Once imported you will see them in the Active Flight Plan List with a BART logo next to the call sign.

  2. As changes are made in BART, corresponding updates will automatically reflect in FltPlan unless:
    1. the flight plan has already been filed with the FAA. At this point changes in BART stop reflecting in FltPlan.
    2. changes are made in FltPlan to one of the core attributes of a flight, e.g. arrival airport, departure airport, PIC, SIC, total souls (crew + passengers) or departure date/time. At this point the syncing between BART and FltPlan will stop for this particular flight.
  3. If a flight plan is deleted in FltPlan but is still present in BART, it will get re-created in FltPlan on the next import.

Applying Flight Time Estimates in BART

  1. When you open a trip on BART, after it has been imported to FltPlan, BART fetches an accurate flight time estimate from FltPlan. BART updates the ETA, Flight and Block fields for the respective trip based on the flight time estimate from FltPlan. These values are displayed in red to indicate that they have been fetched from FlightPlan. Please note that you need to save the trip on BART in order to save the new ETA, Flight and Block times to the trip.

Troubleshooting

  1. Please check the Active Flight Plan List in FltPlan for any error messages regarding a leg.

  2. Some reasons for legs not showing on FltPlan could be:
    1. you have exceeded the maximum number of saved flight plans allowed by your FltPlan subscription.
    2. aircraft registration does not exist in FltPlan.
    3. ICAO data for the selected aircraft is either missing or incomplete.
    4. missing PIC on BART.
  3. In BART, you can navigate to Gear Icon -> Activity History, select "Integrations" from the Module & Activity dropdown, select "FltPlan" from the next dropdown and enter the respective date range to view errors received from FltPlan. Please feel free to contact BART support for any questions.
